The Golden Rule

Now granted I am a religious person, but even if you are not, it seems to me the Golden Rule should make sense to everyone. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Same thing as saying "Right Is Right". I mean what person wants other people to be mean and ugly to them? So why would you do that to anyone else? I am not perfect, never claimed to be, but I try to make sure I am kind and polite to everyone that I meet. I have learned, often the hard way, that you never know what is going on in someones life, you never know what demons they are fighting. Give people the benefit of the doubt and, even if they don't have a valid reason to act the way they do, at least you are the better person. We all have days that we would rather be left alone, far away from other people and the stress of life, but most of us work with/around people and can't just stay in bed and avoid the world. Be extra careful those days because you may be more prone to ugliness or to snap at some innocent bystander and you often have no idea the hurt you may cause. I find cuddling up with my cats eases my stress away on days like that. They love you and never talk back (at least not with words). I recommend everyone own a pet (if you aren't a cat person, pick whatever animal you like) and, not just because I am a vet, but because I think it helps you to be a better person and follow the Golden Rule.
